I’m 14 years old(i look 10 or 11 years old though..loll) and have scoliosis?and yoga?
Does anyone know how to decrease it?My scoliosis isn’t that bad, I dont have to wear a brace or anything(i’m still growing)?But does anyone know any ways to make it better?
Also I might be taking yoga/tai chi. But since I have scoliosis will it be harder for me?I am now flexible either.Can i still take it?
I’m hoping yoga will improve my posture and strength.Because my parents dont let me go outside unless I’m with them(afriad i might get kidnapped or something), so i wanna take something indoors,but i digress.Well,Thanks in advance for answering my question!

my scoliosis isnt very bad i know its under 25 degrees.but the last time i checked was over 6 months ago lol.
and my neck is also crooked,but not too much
found out i had scoliosis when i was 12.

I don’t know how to decrease your spine curvature due to scoliosis, but I do know that some people believe that yoga helps you to strengthen the muscles surrounding your spine and thus help you to ease the pain that can come with scoliosis. (By the way, dont’ feel bad about looking younger than your age. I’ve always been the same way, and now that I’m getting older I realize how nice it is that people think I’m years younger!)
There are some articles on yoga for people with scoliosis on the Yoga Journal website. Yoga instructor Elise Browning Miller wrote an article about her experience with using yoga to “remediate” her scoliosis; its an interesting article and I’ve included it below.
If you’re serious about trying to use yoga to correct your scoliosis, I recommend investing in classes with a certified yoga teacher who specializes in helping students with scoliosis. That way you’ll have someone knowledgable to help you and interact with you and make sure you don’t hurt yourself. The Yoga for Scoliosis website is one place to start in your search for a yoga instructor.
Also, you mentioned your parents…if you’re up for it, you can invite your parents to join your yoga class with you. Who knows? They might enjoy it and its a stress reliever as well as a good way to get some exercise. Plus they’d probably be more willing to let you take the class if you decide to do so.
